April has seen Clarks Originals step into the spotlight with the return of Wallabee Day—a global celebration dedicated to one of the most culturally significant shoes in modern fashion. Though the official day falls on April 26, the build-up has already been packed with exclusive drops, artistic collaborations, and vibrant community-led activations, all paying homage to the legendary Wallabee silhouette.

More Than Just a Shoe
First introduced in 1968, the Wallabee has transcended footwear status to become a true cultural emblem. Beloved by subcultures across continents—from UK football terraces and Jamaican dancehalls to Japanese streetwear circles and US hip-hop legends—the Wallabee remains a canvas for self-expression.

A Story That Started at JFK
This year’s campaign takes inspiration from a quirky 1971 incident at JFK Airport, where US customs officers mistakenly believed a Clarks shipment contained live wallabies, not shoes. That mix-up has become the foundation for this year's creative direction, complete with tongue-in-cheek imagery of Wallabees in wooden crates and faux customs labels. The Maple Suede colourway stands front and centre, symbolising the silhouette’s timeless appeal.

Noteworthy Drops
Kicking off the month on April 5, Clarks Originals teamed up with Japanese cult brand Needles for a bold reinterpretation of the Wallabee. Available in Maple and Black Suede, the collab introduces playful straps, peace symbols, and premium details that marry comfort with streetwear credibility.

Then came the Wallabee Day Pack, a trio of limited-edition suede styles in Pink, Sand Grey, and Green, complete with textured laces and a kangaroo-shaped fob—a playful nod to the JFK story.

Looking Ahead to April 26
Wallabee Day officially lands on April 26, and Clarks will release a short film, Wallabees: Worn by the World. Presented as a fictional audition, the film showcases a variety of quirky, individual takes on how the Wallabee should be “performed,” reinforcing its legacy as a shoe with endless interpretations.

Blank Canvas Activations Around the Globe
Clarks has leaned into the idea of the Wallabee as a “blank canvas” by commissioning artists to reimagine the shoe in real time. In London, artist Teoni is transforming the Clarks Originals Soho store into an immersive celebration of Jamaican heritage, family, and community. Across the pond in Boston, local artist Jordan Barros will be customising Wallabees live at the Concepts store, making each pair a one-of-a-kind piece.

Wallabee Day 2025 isn’t just about the shoe—it’s a tribute to its worldwide journey and the countless communities that have embraced it. From exclusive releases to storytelling and creative expression, Clarks Originals proves once again why the Wallabee continues to stand the test of time.
