Prolific Manchester rapper Nemzzz returns with his anticipated second mixtape, RENT'S DUE, we checked it out to give you our thoughts on the new drop.
RENT'S DUE, is Nemzzz levelling up, and locking in. The mixtape channels his journey, his determination, and the realities of climbing the ranks, without sacrificing that relaxed delivery that made him stand out in the first place. It follows DO NOT DISTURB, the project that solidified his place in UK rap, but this time he’s got more to prove….and has proven it.
Ever since Nemzzz dropped his viral breakout track ELEVATE in 2021, he’s been building his name off of consistency, clever wordplay, and a sound that's uniquely his own. But with that, some wondered: would he mix it up? Would he show more range? RENT'S DUE is his direct answer. Across 14 tracks, he embodies versatility without compromising what makes him himself, blending introspection, a variety of tracks with bouncy production, and new flows in a way that feels like natural growth.
Nemzzz’s has always been championed for his unique sound, but outside that, there had been chatter on socials about the artist whilst he was establishing himself: “playing it too safe”, “same flow”, “same beats” - with that, I feel as if, I had already assumed, I knew what to expect from the project, not that it wouldn’t deliver- but that it may follow the same sounding formula, he had previously used to create bangers such as Money & Vibes, 8AM in Manny, & 2MS, and definitely wanted to see Nemzzz test out his artistic boundaries.
But before RENT’S DUE even dropped, the conversation around Nemzzz was shifting. TikToks, and Twitter threads debated if he’d switch things up or stick to what works. This mixtape feels like his response to that. The rollout itself hinted at something different - when Nemzzz teased TURKS & CAICOS on Plaque Boy Max’s stream, it immediately sparked excitement. Fans clocked that the flow was different, and it set the tone for anticipation.
TURKS & CAICOS, which first caught people’s attention on Plaque Boy Max’s stream, it’s smoother, more unpredictable, and you can hear Nemzzz playing with his flow in a way that feels effortless. BMF, on the other hand, comes in heavier, the beat knocks harder, and Nemzzz rides it with even more confidence, making every bar stick. Nemzzz knew exactly what he was doing when he previewed TURKS & CAICOS on Plaque Boy Max’s stream—the stream/track preview instantly built anticipation, showing fans he had more in the tank. And that wasn’t just a one-off. Throughout the tape, his delivery feels sharper, effortlessly switching between and high-energy flexing.
On DILEMMA, Central Cee delivers a standout verse, stretching nearly two minutes (How Greedy) without missing a beat, sharp, no-nonsense wordplay, making his presence on the track feel effortless and full of quotables—“Said that she want 10K but she ain’t even worth it in Naira” being one of the most memorable. The track feels like a perfect link-up, with Cench’s effortless flow complementing Nemzzz’s style without overshadowing him. For Nathan, this is another major win, proving why he’s one of the most exciting producers to come out of the underground right now.
A major standout moment on RENT’S DUE is BAD GAL RIRI, which flips Rihanna’s James Joint, into something fresh, while keeping the essence of the much-loved original. The sample isn’t just there for nostalgia, it’s worked into the track seamlessly, adding a smooth, hypnotic layer whilst Nemzzz glides effortlessly on the beat. That same replay-worthy quality runs through tracks like MOTION, STOP IT!, and DTM - all carrying the kind of bounce and energy that make you wheel them up without thinking. To be honest, the whole tape has that effect- 14 tracks deep, and not a single one feels like filler.
This tape is another reminder that Manchester’s rap scene is only getting stronger. Meekz, Tunde, and Aitch have already helped put the city on the map, but the next wave of artists like Zeddy East and Deed0t are proving there’s even more talent coming right through.
But Nemzzz stands in a lane of his own. As one of the UK’s most-streamed rap artists, he’s proving his reach extends far beyond his city. Linking up with Cench and Kyle Richh only reinforces that his sound isn’t confined to Manchester -he’s shaping UK rap in real time.
RENT’S DUE feels like Nemzzz stepping up and showing there’s more to him than people might have expected. He plays with new sounds while staying true to what made him stand out in the first place. The project feels intentional -like he’s proving a point without forcing it. With solid features, sharp production, and a clear sense of growth, it’s another strong moment in his rise to the top rankings within UK Rap. Nemzzz is evolving, and if this tape is anything to go by, he’s only getting started!
