Author: Mark Haddon | Monday 2nd December 2024
British retailer END. teams up with sportswear icon PUMA and East London’s renowned Turkish restaurant Mangal II to mark its 30th anniversary with a limited-edition reinterpretation of the classic PUMA Suede. This collaboration is a blend of heritage, style, and storytelling, paying tribute to Mangal II’s legacy in London’s cultural and culinary scene.
The sneakers feature Mangal II’s signature Clyde Royal Blue exterior, adorned with gold-foil hallmarking on the heel and a “94” on the right heel, symbolizing the restaurant's founding year. Co-branded detailing on the tongue and insole further ties the design to its inspiration, adding depth to this milestone release.
The collaboration celebrates Mangal II's rich history, from its inception by founder Ali Dirik in 1994 to its evolution under the leadership of his sons, Ferhat and Sertaç, who have pushed the restaurant forward with a modern take on Turkish mangal cooking. To mark the occasion, the Dirik brothers returned to Anatolia, Türkiye, to explore their family’s culinary roots, documenting the journey that inspired their father to bring authentic Turkish cuisine to London in 1987.
Ferhat Dirik reflected on the significance of the experience:
"Returning to Anatolia after 19 years has solidified my sense of identity and roots. Experiencing the regional dishes we grew up with made me feel complete, fulfilled, and deeply connected to my family’s heritage."
With only 300 pairs available, the END. x PUMA x Mangal II Suede sneakers are a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts alike. Launching via END. Launches, this release not only celebrates a beloved East London institution but also highlights the shared cultural legacy of food and fashion.
