Kappa has teamed up with Too Hot for a new collection that pays homage to the Jamaican national football team's legendary 1998 World Cup kit. At the heart of this capsule is a modern take on Jamaica’s historic home jersey from their first World Cup appearance.
The updated jersey has been reimagined by British-Jamaican artist Barka, a celebrated painter and creative director. His design features a striking fingerprint motif, symbolizing his personal connection to Jamaica and reflecting the nation’s significant impact on global sports and culture.
"Watching the 1998 World Cup with my family is one of my most cherished childhood memories. I can still feel the excitement of seeing the Reggae Boyz score their first goal against Croatia and secure their first win against Japan. That jersey holds a special place in my heart," said Barka. "Redesigning that iconic piece and directing the film for Kappa® x Too Hot in Jamaica felt like a dream realized. My goal was to capture the same sense of identity and pride I felt as a kid. It’s a full-circle moment for me, blending those nostalgic memories with a milestone in my career."
The campaign video, also directed by Barka, was filmed in Treasure Beach, Jamaica, capturing the collection amidst the island’s vibrant spirit and natural beauty. The video features local talent and is set to an energetic soundtrack by acclaimed jazz drummer Yussef Dayes, a frequent collaborator of Barka.
The Kappa® x Too Hot capsule collection is a tribute to both the Jamaican national team's historic World Cup journey and the island’s rich culture and style. The collection includes a limited-edition jersey, track top, shorts, and oversized vest, all featuring the iconic Kappa® and Too Hot logos intertwined with Jamaica’s national colors.
Available for a limited time starting August 22, the collection can be found at toohotlimited.com, Htown, Pro:Direct, and USC, both in-store and online.
