Last weekend marked Formula One's British Grand Prix - and what a weekend it was. From all the action on the track to the festivities around the whole weekend, it was nothing short of historic.
Lewis Hamilton won his 9th British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend - the most wins by any driver at a single track, breaking the record set by himself, and Formula One legend Michael Schumacher. It was also set to be his final British Grand Prix win with his current team, Mercedes, as he is set to join Ferrari for next season. Max Verstappen and Lando Norris took second and third places on the podium, with Hamilton's team mate George Russell retiring from the race early due to a suspected water system issue - potentially preventing a British 1-2-3 finish.
Outside of the gripping action on the track, Silverstone offered so much more for race lovers from the food stands, to the live music and entertainment across the weekend. Friday saw Jordss and Ghetts take to the stage, with Stormzy headlining and closing out the evening - and what energy they all brought. Jordss kicked things off with his impeccable track selection for the crowd on Friday - the first day of practice for the drivers.
Ghetts then upped the energy with his performance, with tracks like "No Mercy" and "Blood On My Hands" showcasing an unbelievable stage presence that captivated the crowd from the moment he stepped out to start his performance. He delivered energy, flows, bars, and everything you would expect from a Ghetts performance ten-fold.
Headlining the Friday evening, Stormzy was performing in the rain for the most part, and showcased why he is such a good entertainer, even taking his shoes off to perform in soaking-wet socks for most of his performance. The stage presence, the song selection, the crowd, everything was spot on for this performance.
The other days saw Kings of Leon, Pete Tong, Rudimental, Arielle Free just to name a few take to the stage. Silverstone’s Commercial Director Nick Read said: "Our long-term ambition has always been to attract the biggest and best artists in the world to Silverstone to put on a spectacular show for the British fans. With Kings of Leon, Stormzy, Pete Tong and Rudimental on this year’s line-up, it’s fair to say the 2024 British Grand Prix is going to be bigger and better than ever before! We knew we had a massive job on our hands following the great success of last year’s music offering, so we are thrilled to be able to take things up another notch.”
Friday’s music line-up over at Red Bull's Pole Position area was headlined by West London’s p-rallel and Huddersfield’s DJ Q. Spotlighting a line-up of emerging DJs, Friday’s line-up celebrated the freshest regional sounds throughout the day and after hours as the first day of on-track action unfolded.
On Saturday, Red Bull Pole Position celebrated women in music, featuring a full female line-up. On the decks throughout the day Rinse FM DJ, Jyoty, BBC Radio 1Xtra’s finest selector Tiffany Calver, London based DJ and producer Siân Owen plus many more take to the decks.
Closing the show on Sunday, MOBO and BRIT Award nominee DJ and vocalist, Eliza Rose, best known for her worldwide hit B.O.T.A. (Baddest of Them All). Joining her on the race day line-up was legendary DJ, Craig Charles, delivering the very best of funk, soul and old school, taking a nostalgic journey through sound.
This really was a great weekend for British Formula One Fans, with a great race in unpredictable weather conditions, a Lewis Hamilton win, and just plenty of entertainment all round the weekend.
