Grammy Award-winning saxophonist and producer Venna has unveiled a new track ‘Standard’ featuring the talented South Kilburn-hailing Knucks. Having worked with the likes of Wizkid, Burna Boy, Snoh Aalegra and more, his well-known presence is about to reach new heights.
After the pair linked up for Knucks’ single ‘Standout’ last year, their undeniable musical chemistry shines through on their latest offering. Venna’s debut as an artist with ‘Standard’ is clean, with a jazz-infused backdrop that is hazy and full of warmth. When paired with Knucks’ unorthodox style of rap that is filled with his signature slick and effortless bars, the resulting product is an expertly crafted track that lingers with the listener.
Speaking on the track, Venna comments: “It was around last year, June, top of corona times, when the sun just came out - I was working on my [forthcoming] project Venology and I knew that I wanted to get Knucks on one of the records. I was flicking through samples & Knucks heard one that resonated with him. We chopped the sample a bit then Knucks started some drums. I knew I wanted to get additional instrumentation (bass, guitar, sax & piano) just to bring more life to the record & make it more of a masterpiece.”
Tying into the feeling of warmth and summer, the stunning visuals directed by Adama Jolloh bring ‘Standard’ to life as we see Venna and his friends explore the greenery of South London.
