One of the most exciting things about Hip Hop is the ability to tell a story. Some of the most memorable hip hop songs of all time are storytelling songs. From 2Pac's 'Brenda's Got a Baby' to Biggie's 'I Got a Story to Tell' this tradition of storytelling is one that has been present since the early days.
With his new EP, Shotty Horroh weaves a tale of crime, murder and betrayal over 5 tracks. Produced entirely by Shotty himself, 'The Teller' (double entendre there, both storyteller and bank teller), tells the story of Dave, a thriving worker at a bank who runs up debts with a local crime family and has to call on his brother in law to help him get out of the predicament.
I will leave it there as I wouldn't want to spoil the story, but the project tells the story really well, from both the side of Dave and his brother in law with Shotty changing his voice depending on which character he is playing.
