Students in England will be given a six-day window in December in which they will be allowed to travel home before Christmas. This will be accompanied with mass testing carried out on campus before they are allowed to leave.
According to the Department for Education (DfE) on Tuesday night, universities will also be instructed to move learning online by December 9 so that students have the option to return home and study. Students will be allowed to travel between December 3 and 9 under a “travel window” to manage pressure on transport and infrastructure over the festive period.
The plans are put in place to help deal with the “significant challenge” of the mass movement of students at the end of term as part of Englands response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Department of Education spokesperson says more details about what the plan is for after the Christmas period would be published “in due course”.
