In a televised interview with Andrew Marr, health secretary Matt Hancock warns of harsher sanctions if people continue to flout the rules.
As it stands, we’re allowed to go out once a day to exercise, and to get essentials such as food and medicine.
However Hancock warned that the government could impose tougher rules, similar to those implemented in other parts of Europe.
He said: “My message is really clear. If you don’t want us to have to take the step to ban exercise of all forms outside of your own home, then you’ve got to follow the rules.”
Italy has in effect banned leaving for exercise altogether, and France requires you to have filled out a form if you leave your home. If you are caught without a form in France you are issued a fine of €375 if unpaid within 45 days.
It's kiling children. Don't be unfair. Stay inside.
