Spain has recorded its highest number of Coronavirus deaths in one day. It recorded 864 fatalities over the course of 24 hours, as cases in the country passed 100,000. Over 9,000 people have died from COVID-19 in Spain - only Italy has a higher death rate.

Spain has now seen more than 800 deaths for five days in a row, however health officials believe the latest 12% increase in daily infections is evidence that the rate has started to plateau. Spain has been in lockdown for over a fortnight, with further restrictions on movement introduced two days ago.

Health services in the hardest-hit areas, such as Madrid and Catalonia, are still struggling, with shortages of medical equipment a particular problem.
