Wretch 32 publicly called out Airbnb for allegedly stealing money from him due to the host’s discriminatory attitude towards allowing him to stay in their accommodation, although the rapper had already paid.

Wretch addressed the online holiday rental marketplace via Twitter writing, “Imagine Airbnb cancelled my booking, stole half my money because the host had an issue with “Coloured folk & felt uncomfortable”. I’ve heard of birthday beats but not birthday teefs.”

It appears that the rental home was booked as part of the artist’s 34th birthday celebrations over the weekend.

Airbnb responded to Wretch’s tweet stating, “Airbnb does not condone discrimination in any way…” before referring to their policy.

The National Student contacted Airbnb about Wretch 32’s claims and a spokesperson told them, “We were concerned to hear about this experience and have reached out to Wretch32 and his management to learn more. Discrimination has no place on Airbnb and goes against everything our community stands for.”

According to the Airbnb Community Commitment guidelines, hosts must agree to treat everyone in the Airbnb community regardless of their race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or age—with respect, and without judgment or bias. Still, there have been many complaints over the years of bookings being cancelled due to discrimination, with Wretch’s complaint raising the concern that the issue has not been dealt with effectively.
