Skepta accuses his haters of ‘Hypocrisy’ on new single

Skepta has today premiered a brand new single entitled ‘Hypocrisy’ via SoundCloud. The track, which he debuted in full at Webster Hall, New York on 7 June, was written and produced in its entirety by the man himself.

On the track, Skeppy addresses his disillusionment with music moguls, claiming “nobody actually knows me” and “I declined some amazing dinners”. The 34-year-old MC, who has independently released all his music through Boy Better Know since 2014, also speculates that major record labels may no longer have a crucial role in the industry (“Now look at the labels dying / Nobody else is signing”).

In the second verse, he name-drops Wretch 32 and Kendrick Lamar as two of his personal top five lyricists, later alluding to Ghetts’ iconic single ‘Top 3 Selected’ (“Murdered the beat, no, it ain’t attempted / I meant it / And I’m still top three selected”).

The North London star also reveals that he was unsuccessfully nominated for the prestigious title of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), but consoles himself by spitting: “The MBE got rejected / I’m not tryna be accepted”.

You can check out ‘Hypocrisy’ above; it will hopefully hit retailers in the near future.
