Turning out in large numbers, the election saw a youth turnout of around 72 per cent of 18- 24 year old’s voting Labour to stop the Tories winning in a majority. The nation was taken aback by Jeremy Corbyn’s success but what’s more intriguing, however, is the extent to which grime music, gave him a path to political power.

Days before the general election, a popular campaign group was launched ‘Grime4Corbyn’. It was organised to encourage young people to engage with the electoral process after a number of Grime artists inclucding JME, Stormzy, Novelist and AJ Tracey, all came out to support Jeremy Corbyn (Labour leader). In exchange for registering to vote, the campaign group offered free tickets to a secret grime party.

The event which took place in Tottenham, North London started off with a panel discussion about the link between grime and politics that featured young entrepreneurs and activists and then, was shortly followed by performances from  Scrufizzer, Maxsta, Pep, 2Face, Skatta, Crucial + many more.  Check out the video above as Morgan Silva interviews voters and gives us exclusive access to the event!
