Meek Mill Debuts ‘Stay Woke’ Ft Miguel At 2018 BET Awards

Since his release from prison in April, Meek Mill has been making sure that he hasn’t been wasting any time when it comes to his music. The Philadelphia rapper has just dropped his new song ‘Stay Woke’ featuring R&B singer Miguel.

The unveiling of the song occurred at the BET Awards which took place yesterday – with Meek Mill delivering a meaningful performance that touched heavily on police brutality and the criminal justice system. Performing in front of street imagery that showed several acts of violence including police violence, a young girl getting shot and a jail scene, Mill wore a black hoodie tributing the faces of XXXTentacion and Jimmy Wopo, both of who were killed by gun violence within hours of each other last week. Miguel also joined him on stage as they both sent out a powerful message.

Last November, Meek Mill was sentenced to 2-4 years in prison for violating probation and spent 5 months in jail before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered his release. Recently, he has been fighting to get rid of his 2008 convictions on drug and gun charges. However, he also revealed on his Twitter when teasing fans with ‘Stay Woke’ that he felt a sense of responsibility to help reach out to other prisoners and help them move forward as he discussed prison conditions and treatment.

You can take a listen to ‘Stay Woke’ above. It is also available to stream on iTunes/Apple Music and Spotify.
