J .Cole drops ‘Album Of The Year’ freestyle

April saw the release of J. Cole’s fifth studio album K.O.D, and it looks like the Dreamville rapper isn’t stopping anytime soon with projects. His new freestyle ‘Album Of The Year’ which is directed by Simon David, indicates towards a new mixtape after the opening message in the video reads ‘What you are about to witness is a master class on preparation’ – ‘THE OFF-SEASON’.

The start of the week saw J. Cole ask his fans to send him over any instrumentals claiming everything will get lyrically ‘murdered’ and he wasn’t lying. Cole spits fire over the timeless ‘Oochie Wally’ which was originally used by Nas and in the space of two minutes, finds the time to state he’s at the top of the game whilst also giving some advice to the new generation on expanding their vocabulary. ‘Before I had a deal, I was giving ni**as hell, now I’m giving ni**as deals and they’re giving ni**as hell’. The freestyle ends with J. Cole paying homage to his label Dreamville who now have a catalogue of rappers who are on the rise including Bas, EarthGang and J.I.D who was part of the 2018 XXL Freshman List. ‘The Off-Season’ doesn’t have a set date but expect a drop in the upcoming months.
