The MOBO awards (standing for Music of Black Origin) has taken place yearly since 1996. The founders, Kanya King, and Andy Ruffell, have been hugely successful in establishing the awards and is, to date, one of the biggest awards shows in Europe. The show aims to celebrate talented musicians within the UK music scene, with genres like Hip-Hop, Jaz, Grime and RnB making the cut. 2017 winners include Dave, J Hus, Jorja Smith, Mabel, and Mist. Basically, if you are a fan of the UK music scene, you will of heard of the MOBO awards.

However, recently an Instagram post uploaded by MOBO stated that the ceremony won’t be taking place in 2018. The post states that the brand wants to bring the awards show to “new heights” and “continue to amplify the exposure of the large pool of exceptional talent celebrated by MOBO”. They state that, as a result, the award ceremony will not be taking place this year but they promise big things for us in 2019- a bigger, revamped show and exciting new events over the next year, in terms of film, entrepreneurship, and music. We’re sad to hear that the awards won’t be taking place this year, but we are gassed to see what big things come of next year’s show!
