MistaJam and Yungen give exclusive chat to Link Up TV competition winner at The Ultimate Seminar

Link Up TV gave a young MC an opportunity to attend the 7th annual Ultimate Seminar on Saturday 19 November and an exclusive sit down with BBC 1Xtra DJ MistaJam and UK artist Yungen to get some tips for his music career.

The Ultimate Seminar is Europe’s only free major music seminar where heavyweight industry heads give their business advice to new artists, this years event saw keynote speeches by Chairman of Universal Music UK, David Joseph and President of Capitol Records UK, Nick Raphael who has signed the likes of Jay Z, Sam Smith, 5 Seconds of Summer, Paloma Faith, Aloe Blacc, Olly Murs. MOBO Award-winning musician Shakka and rising R&B stars Mabel and Ray Blk were some of the artists in attendance to share their journey into music.

20-year-old MC Rone spoke to us about attending the seminar ‘The Ultimate Seminar taught me that there is always something new to learn about the music industry. Hearing the panel’s different experiences within the industry and their journeys as artists just inspired me to believe in myself, believe in my craft and do everything to the best of my ability.

After meeting and sitting down with MistaJam, I was inspired to really push on with my music and to perfect it to the best of my ability. He said to me “Everyone’s different. No two artists have done it the same”, “be true to yourself” and “if the music’s good people will come to you”. This really spurred me on to keep doing what I’m doing. Yungen said to me that different things work for different artist and that the people around me are really important to my music career. He explained that the people around me such as friends and family need to be there to help encourage and support whatever I do.

This opportunity was a big experience for me. Yungen is an artist I’ve been listening to since I was in year 9. When he was telling me his experiences as an artist and referencing the songs made over the years, I couldn’t help but think back to where I was or what I was doing at the time of those situations or when I first heard those songs. This made me realise that one day I would like to be in the same position as Yungen where I have gained knowledge and wisdom that I can also impart on younger aspiring artists. Sitting with MistaJam just motivated me work hard. I’ve watched he’s shows on YouTube where he’s had artists perform and for me it would be a huge milestone in my career to be able to do the same.’
