To correspond with Mental Health Awareness Week, the poet and community activist, Hussain Manawer has released his debut EP entilted, ‘Am I Going Too Deep?’

Produced by Moghul Veyron, the 5 track project finds Hussain using his unique wordplay to explore everything from his school days, politics and his life in Ilford.

“I had to express myself in the only way I knew how too with this body of work” say’s Hussain. “To me it’s a big part of my soul encapsulated into words. I hope it touches and resonates with people the way I want it too. I had to be honest on the tracks, and that came from listening to people like Mike Skinner and Krept & Konan. I think society is starting to move in the right direction with regards to how we look at mental health, so I hope ‘am I going too deep?’ is the starting point of a conversation for at least one person in Mental Health Awareness Week.”

Hussain’s given lessons on the effects of cyber bullying to over 400 school pupils. He is also a proud supporter of Samaritans, committed to their vision of fewer people dying by suicide and has addressed MPs at the House of Commons on their behalf. In March Hussain organised an event at London’s Hackney Empire Theatre, where he (in collaboration with Kings College London) set the Guinness World record for the world’s largest mental health lesson.
