Girls I Rate partners up with Island Records UK and PRS for Music to launch #GetHeard, a new showcase event aimed at providing young women with the chance to present their original music to an audience of A&R professionals! This is a great opportunity for women… The event will take place on Saturday, May 6 at PRS For Music’s Kings Cross HQ, the showcase will be hosted by GIR founder and Beyonce songwriter Carla Marie Williams, Capital Xtra DJ Manny Norte and pop singer Lily Allen.

“I’m really happy about launching Get Heard, under Girls I Rate, because it’s started being really inclusive for a lot of female talent,” says Carla Marie Williams. She elaborated, “People always ask why girls are very reluctant to come forward, and I can say that it is always down to mis-representation when you don’t see women being pushed in the forefront, whether that would be producers, artists, song-writers, you can be discouraged. It’s definitely under the Get Heard initiative, it’s a way of basically giving females a voice and face and a platform to be heard, so I’m really excited about it”.

When speaking about working with PRS for Music and Island Records UK, founder Williams said, “PRS are pushing for it, because they want to increase the amount of females that sign up. From 16%, which tells you that there’s a massive in balance in the music industry, when it comes to females contributing as songwriters and producers. I’m really happy that Darcus from Island Records, as a man and as a black man, has fully got behind this, wanting to bring more women to the forefront and to support it.”

To apply to #GETHEARD and for the chance to have your track listened to by this expert A&R panel, you must submit your songs via a SoundCloud link, no later than Wednesday, April 26 to ArtsAcademy@girlsIrate.com.
