Diddy tops Forbes’ Rich List again

P Diddy

Forbes has released its annual list of the wealthiest people in the rap game. The names on the list are not really a surprise, in fact the names are the exact same as last year with a slight change in the running order.

Diddy still sits at the top of the list with an estimated fortune of $820 million which includes his ventures with Ciroc vodka, Revolt TV and his Bad Boy reunion tour. Jay Z takes second place from Dr Dre with an estimated net worth of $810 million, showing that he is putting serious pressure on Diddy’s top spot.

Jay Z’s net worth made a $200 million jump from last year. Jay’s net worth received a sizeable boost from his Tidal deal with Sprint telecommunications company. In January Sprint invested $200 million into the Tidal streaming service which increased its value $600 million – more than 10 times the amount that Jay paid for it in 2015.

So it looks like a shootout between Diddy and Jay to see who will hit the $1 billion mark first.

Dr Dre isn’t too far behind Diddy and Jay, the West coast legend is at number 3 with a net worth of $740 million and Birdman continues his run in the top 5 with a net worth valued at $110 million. Drake rounds up the top 5 with $90 million which is very impressive considering he is the youngest person on the list by far at 30, Diddy and Jay Z are significantly ahead in the net worth estimates but they also both have 17 years on Drake as they are both aged 47, so Diddy may hold the crown for now but Drake is definitely working on a plan to take it from him in the coming years.

Here is how Forbes calculated the list:

“We follow the same procedures used to calculate our list of the world’s billionaires: looking at past earnings, valuing current holdings, leafing through financial documents and talking to analysts, attorneys, managers, other industry players and even some of the moguls themselves to find the details.”
