It’s been almost a week since 0121 legend, Dapz On The Map, delivered his 7 track E.P, Champion Settings, and with the project receiving huge amounts of love up and down the country, the buzz and excitement was steadily building for his Headline Show in his home city.

A cold, wet Tuesday evening in the heart of Birmingham was about to become a night to remember for those in attendance. 0121 DJ’s DayDay and Dougie Fresh raised the energy levels significantly as the O2 Academy began to fill up with fans and pivotal figures from the UK scene. It was clear for all to see that the night was going to be special, and that was confirmed as talented Birmingham based singer/songwriter, Phe Phe, took to the stage and kicked things off by showcasing her soulful hits and vocal talents to the fullest.

Next the Birmingham crowd was blessed with the talents of an upcoming MC who is set to for a huge 12 months. Wolverhampton artist, Jinx TouchWood, has recently taken the West Midlands by storm with a string of singles, and freestyles which follow up the release of his mixtape ‘EMG2‘. The heavyweight MC brought nothing but energy to the stage as he performed a number of tracks including ‘High Numbers‘ and ‘Bangers ‘n’ Slang‘, letting everybody know that he is the one to watch as we approach the new year.

With the room pretty much full, and the energy levels continuing to rise, it was time for the final support act of the night, and this slot was given to one of the most gifted creatives within the second city. Infamous Dimez is a man who can produce, rap and sing. He has it all, and after an exciting 2018 musically, it was only right that he took to the stage to support his long time friend, and fellow Brummie, Dapz On The Map. Dimez blessed the stage with his infectious melodies taken from the 14 track project ‘Monsters Only‘, before ending his set with the banger that is ‘TRVPHXUSE‘.

It’s safe to say that everybody was now ready for Dapz to come and show out for the people, and as soon as DJ Apostle pressed play on ‘Long Time‘ the room erupted in celebration for the Birmingham star. Although the project is less than a week old, those in attendance sung along word for word to the opening track which shows just how appreciated Dapz is in his city. With the set under way, there was no time wasted, and we were introduced to the first of many special guests. London talent, Blay Vision took to the stage to perform ‘D.M.L‘ and ‘Can’t Sleep‘.

Dapz continued to delve deep into his healthy catalogue which is full of anthems that he has delivered over the years, and one track which was always going to go off was his collaboration with fellow LiveWire family member, Tempa, who joined him on stage to perform ‘Mortal Kombat‘ before allowing Dapz to carry on showcasing content from the new E.P, which leads us nicely on to the entrance of the King Of Hooks. Bowzer Boss has built quite the reputation for dropping the coldest hooks, for example his feature on Jaykae‘s ‘Moscow‘, and ‘Champion Settings’ see’s Dapz and Bowzer team up for ‘Ground Floor‘, which was easily one of the most hype tracks of the night.

With the energy levels at their highest it was time for Dapz to take a break, while Bowzer took centre stage, and he wasn’t alone. Brum Town captain, Jaykae, appeared on the stage to support his long time friend, and after a brief introduction the duo performed their popular track ‘Moscow’. It goes without saying that the crowd went crazy for this one, and after no time Dapz got straight back into the swing of things and took us back to 2014 as him and Jaykae performed ‘Froggy‘. Shortly after performing, the duo announced that ‘Froggy 2’ is on the way, and we might be getting that in 2019.

If you haven’t quite worked it out yet, Dapz was taking us on a journey for this show, and the next moment was one of the top highlights of the night. His 2015 track ‘Murdah‘, which features his daughter, is one of his most popular joints. It’s safe to say that the crowd took the roof off when she entered the stage to perform the track with her Dad. A true moment for Dapz and his family.

With the curfew drawing closer and closer, there was still some special guests to appear before the show finished, and there was only a few tracks which hadn’t been performed. The next track saw LiveWire in full force, as Dapz and Scorpz raised the energy levels even higher to perform the hit single ‘Turnt‘, which set the ending up perfectly for a Grime scene legend to make a very rare appearance. We all know that Dapz and JME shut down the scene with their single ‘Off To Work‘, and it was only right that the duo linked up in the 0121 to celebrate the arrival of ‘Champion Settings’ in true style.

A huge night for Dapz On The Map, and a huge night for Birmingham, was brought to a close with the perfect outro tune. ‘Champion Champion‘ rang out as Dapz left the stage to finish off what has been a life changing 2018, and prepare for an even bigger year ahead.
