brit awards

Today the BRIT awards announced its nominees for this year.

The BRITS has been taking place annually for over 40 years now, with the first award ceremony being in 1977. The awards show congratulates artists for success in the music industry, and gaining a BRIT award is very prestigious so it’s amazing to see the awards being inclusive. Grime, rap, and hip-hop are all genres which some of the artists nominated represent.

The annual BRIT awards celebrate British popular music artists and this year’s nominees are inclusive of all genres. Included in the list are Giggs, Jorja Smith (who scored three nominations), Craig David, Lily Allen, Mabel, Ella Mai, Mahalia, and Ramz. American artists nominated include Drake, Travis Scott, Cardi B, Ariana Grande, and Brockhampton.

British producer of the year nominated is TBC. Anne-Marie and Dua Lipa lead with 4 nominations each.

2018 has been an amazing year for British music as 1 in 8 albums sold were by British artists. The nominees show the progression that UK rap artists are being nominated and appreciated in a mainstream environment.

Catch the awards on Wednesday the 20th of February.
