All You Need to Know About Tinie Tempah’s New Menswear Collection – What We Wear

Let’s be honest, Tinie Tempah’s style is always on point. He isn’t afraid to push boundaries and try something different. Tinie’s unique fashion sense sets him aside from other rappers and embodies his creative and energetic vibe. So, it’s probably about time that he started his own line.

Even though we know him for his chart topping bangers, he is not new to the fashion scene and has attended London Fashion Week for several years. After taking in all the shows and meeting different designers he finally decided to create a menswear collection for the ‘everyday man’. Having noticed that the extravagant pieces he saw on the catwalk were so different to what the model would wear off duty – Tinie wanted to create a line that could be actually be worn by your typical guy.

Consequently, ‘What We Wear finally’ launched last month, April 2017. The collection is both refreshing and wearable, each piece is simple but has impressive attention to detail and is finished to a high standard. Essentially, the collection is a hybrid between classic sportswear and tailored formal wear.

Each outfit on the website is paired with the timeless black Air Force 1s, reinforcing that the clothes truly are aimed at the ‘everyday man’. The colour palette is neutral and to be fair some of the pieces do look fairly average at first glance, but the tiny detailing sets the garments aside from high street brands.

The silhouette of a classic tapered jogger is used in combination with sharp pin tucks and belt loops, transforming it into a smart, everyday trouser.

There are also some plain tees and socks with the ‘What We Wear’ logo on it – a zig zag representing the initials of the brand (WWW) giving the garments an instantly recognisable trademark.

Tinie has definitely achieved his aim of designing a formal yet casual collection for young men. The pieces are easy to wear, but also modern and on-trend. Prices on the website range from £15 – £180, which is more expensive than high street, but significantly less than a high end brand. It is the perfect medium for someone looking to invest in a quality, well-made piece but can’t yet afford the Gucci or Louis V. As the pieces are so versatile, I think you would definitely get your moneys worth. The pin tuck trousers could be dressed up with a shirt for a special occasion, or dressed down with a basic Trapstar tee to relax on the weekend.

Even though Tinie has been criticised for jumping from industry to industry, I think this first collection proves that he clearly knows what he’s doing and has a clear vision.

Most importantly, he has a strong connection with young people, which many other designers do not. You can tell from the immense amount of energy and creativity that has been put into this brand and collection that it shows no signs of slowing down. I am excited to see what comes next from What We Wear…
