International Women’s Day 2019 is fast approaching and so it is crucial to give women their due props, not only within music but across all walks of life. Platforms Acoustic Live and What If have joined forces to celebrate International Women’s Day with an event called Women Connect. The people behind this initiative have an overall aim of “creating good fortune and equal opportunities for women in music”. With this in mind, Women Connect is clear in its ambitions to help women network with other women within the creative industry. Scheduled to run on March 11 – two Mondays from now – this fast approaching event is free and not one to be missed!

Guest speakers on the night include industry figures such as Parris OH and Sabrina Kristiansen (RCA), Natty Kasambala (Columbia), San Philips (Promoter at Killmanjaro) and former MD at Coda Agency Claire Horseman. This sounds like a great opportunity for young, female creatives to soak up knowledge, source inspiration and create opportunities. There’ll be a complementary raffle where prizes such as a dinner for two at Vapiano in Oxford Circus, shadowing opportunities, consultations and more (including concert tickets).

The two main bodies involved in putting this night together are Acoustic Live and What If. The former is an award winning platform that is devoted to keeping ‘stripped back’ music alive – the latter is a program headed up by Sony Music that aims to enrich the lives of its employees inside and out of the office. They state that the reason for the night is “not to put the lack of support for women in music under a microscope, but to highlight the free tangible opportunities for said women.”
